During the late teens, some people experience a painful infection at the back of the lower jaw. This may even involve a significant swelling leading to difficulty in opening the mouth. Partial or incomplete eruption of the lower wisdom teeth may be a result of lack of space and hence impactions. This usually results in food trapping between the wisodm tooth and the 2nd molar, progressing to either decay or a gum infection called pericoronitis. In such circumstances, a surgical removal of the offending wisdom tooth would lead to far greater comfort after revcovery.
Losing one's teeth no longer need to be an embarassing thing. Neither does it mean a lifetime of uncomfortable denture use. Implants are easily and predictably sunk in both the upper and lower jaws to provide a foundation upon which comfortable and lifelike dental prostheses may be fabricated.
People with strongly protruding jaws or retracted facial profiles may now consider orthognathic surgery in conjunction with braces to realign their teeth and change their facial profiles.
